Statement on Trans Inclusion
Glasgow FrontRunners is a community LGBT+ running club.
We are proudly inclusive and committed to being a safe, welcoming and inclusive space for all runners. We stand firmly in support of our trans, non-binary and intersex members, who are valued, respected, and celebrated as part of our community.
As a club, we are committed to advocating for more inclusive policies and amplifying the voices of trans athletes within our sport. We recognise that the EHRC Code of Practice and UK Athletics rules of competition (as applied by Scottish Athletics) place severe restrictions on transgender, non-binary and intersex participation in athletics and public life. These rules are discriminatory and do not reflect our values.
All training, social and running activities organised by Glasgow FrontRunners are fully inclusive.
The club seeks to improve race selection and club trips by including as many fully inclusive events as possible, by using full-inclusion as a key criteria. Given the current issues around competition rules, the club acknowledges that some trips and races will not be fully inclusive, and Glasgow FrontRunners will contact race organisers to enquire, advise and advocate about improving inclusion.
Glasgow FrontRunners considers a race to be fully inclusive of trans and non-binary members where there is a non-binary category available for entry, and where male and female categories are open to transgender and intersex athletes without restriction.
The club will continue to strengthen links with other inclusive groups, such as LEAP Sports, to grow our voice and continue dialogue with Scottish Athletics with the aim of improving the situation for trans, non-binary and intersex athletes. In light of the recent EHRC code of practice, we are liaising with Scottish Athletics and LEAP to understand the impact on club activities.
Direct and indirect discrimination, exclusion, or intolerance of any kind have no place in our club. We are committed to listening, learning, and taking responsive action to ensure all members feel safe, seen, and supported.
Running is for everyone — and that means everyone!
